AGILITY ~ TREIBBALL ~ OBEDIENCE ~ RALLY OBEDIENCE ~ TRICKS ~ LURE COURSING

agility

AGILITY is a sport where dogs manoeuvre through a timed obstacle course consisting of jumps, ramps, weave poles and tunnels with the guidance of their handler. Similar to equestrian show jumping, it reflects a combination of desire, control, athletics and team spirit. It not only provides a lot of fun and exercise, but it also strengthens the bond between you and your dog.

Our Agility program offers classes from absolute beginner up to the Masters level, depending on where you and your dog fit best. If you have a well socialized dog with basic obedience skills like sit, down, stay and come, you're ready to try Agility!

Lessons run in 6-week sessions and have a maximum of 4 dog/handler teams per group - this ensures lots of individual attention and practice time on the equipment. Classes run weekdays, weeknights and Saturdays from May through October, and are $150 per session.

Private lessons are also available for $40/half hour or $60/hour.

treibball

TREIBBALL (try-ball) originated in Germany in 2003, and is now being introduced in North America! It is a timed herding sport (but not just for herding breeds!) where the dog pushes an exercise ball with their nose or shoulder into a goal net. At the highest levels the dog responds to the handlers cues from a distance to go out and herd back eight balls individually in a pre-determined order. This is a sport where dog and handler must truly work together as a team. No sheep? Try Treibball!

Our Treibball program will start you with the basics and coach you up to the more advanced levels of the game. If you have a well socialized dog with basic obedience skills like sit, down, stay and come, you're ready for Treibball! As this is a low-impact game, it’s also ideal for dogs retired from other dog sports like agility, flyball or disc, that are still keen to work. You most certainly CAN teach an old dog this new exciting sport!

Lessons run in 6 week sessions and have a maximum of 4 dog/handler teams. This ensures lots of individual attention and practice time. Group lessons run weekdays, weeknights or Saturdays based on demand from May through October, and are $150 per session.

tricks

TRICKS training establishes a pattern of learning, teaches skills and focus, is a positive method of training, and promotes a closer bond between the dog and handler. And most importantly, it's FUN!

We're offering twice monthly mini workshops on Saturdays that are for anyone interested in teaching their dog a multitude of tricks, including workshops just for kids. We're following the Do More With Your Dog program that has many different levels of tricks, and you can ultimately earn titles by submitting a video of your performance. Our instructor is bilingual, and is certified to evaluate your videos (by the way, these titles are recognized by the CKC). If you're not into the titling thing, then just come out and have fun with your dog!

The next workshop - Animal Actors - will be on May 29th! Check out the Events page for more details.

NOTE: If your dog can already do the tricks required for a Do More With Your Dog title, our instructor will be happy to assess your performance by video or here at Dogz. No need to attend a workshop, and it's free of charge!

Lure Coursing

LURE COURSING offered by Avalon Ranch!

Rapidly gaining popularity is the sport of Lure Coursing, where a dog chases an artificial lure around an open field. Typically the lure is made of plastic and furry strips tied to a string that is pulled around a course using a machine and pulleys to simulate prey. There can be many patterns and sizes to the course. The sport was originally created for sighthounds, but we welcome any breed! This is a great way to have fun with your dogs as well as give them some exercise without having to run a marathon yourself! Marie and Todd will introduce your dog to the lure the first time you come out to test your dog's instinct and show them how to run the course. The cost is $15 per run or 3 runs for $40.

Sessions are being held mornings at Dogz - dates to be determined.

Please register in advance and send your completed registration form to Avalon Ranch.
